Romania
Romania is a beautiful country, with nice people, good food and amazing nature. You have to see it, you have to feel it. Accept this challenge and discover Romania in all her beauty and sometimes stupid things. We will receive you with open arms and a lot of enthusiasm. We are proud to live in this great country.

You will find Pokat in the region Transylvania, an interesting holiday destination if you like nature, culture and sport. My husband grew up in this area so we can show you and tell you a lot about the culture of Transylvania, nice places to visit not only restricted to touristic places.

The possibilities for sportive activities are endless like walking in the wood, mountainbiking, swimming or just enjoying the silence of the nature during the summer. In the winter you will find on a distance of 1km very well equipped skipistes for wintersportactivities, you can hire snowcooters for a nice adventure in the snow. At the end of the day you can relax in our sauna, simple and effective. Here you can let go the last physical and mental stress, if it is still there after so many fresh air and beautifull views.

This is your chance to get rid of the preconceptions about Romania. If you are bothered by language problems; Gigi speaks perfect Romanian and Hungarian, I speak Romanian and Hungarian with accent and of course dutch, English and German so… No reason to worry. You have no excuses NOT to choose for Romania.
Gheorgheni Depression
You will be delighted about the nature of Erdely/Transylvanie in the East like the landscape of Szekely, surrounded by the mountains of Gyergyo, originated by the volcanic effects year by year. In the South it borders Guergyo, the mountaintops covered with snow – Piricske on 1543m untill the volcanic mountains of Mezőhavas on 1777m. The river Maros flows between hights of 740 and 820m. De city Gyergyószentmiklós lies in the centre, surrounded by nine villages like Gyergyócsomafalva, Gyergyóalfalu, Gyergyóújfalu, Gyergyóditró, Borzont, Gyergyószárhegy, Gyergyókilyénfalva, Tekerőpatak, Gyergyóvárhegy. The national road 12 is the most important route connecting Csikszera/Miercurea Ciuc with Marosheviz. You find Parajd/Praid next to road nr138 passing by the Bucsitop on 1278m, Odorhieu Secuiesc/Udvarhely and the Libantop on 1000m.
Redlake
The Redlake lies in the natural valley probably first known in 1837. The name changed several time through the years. The original name is Bloodlake/Veresto, here originates the Bloodstoneriver/Vereskő. The name Gyilkosto is used very often by Orban Balas. The popular explanation of the name handles about a legendary murder, the collapsing mountain buried the sheep in the valley including the shepherd, for a long period the lake was red coloured by the blood. An other explanation is that a forest died in a lake, according to the experience of the traveler the gravee of the Szekler community symbolizes the mortality - memento mori… (L. Gyárfás Győző)
Bicaz rocks
The Bicaz rocks lie in line with the Redlake in the uppervalley of the Bicazriver. The Eastern Carpati are probably the most beautiful and famous. The surrounding mountaintops on 1300m and the steep cliffs are even 200 to 300m high, all with a total length of 5km. You can find here rare plants, the most famous is Edelweiss.
Likas caves
The Likas caves are rare vertical sourses on the northside of the Likas mountains, on 1650m. It has total length of 51m and it is devided in three parts. On the bottom lies 3m ice. The ice arises in the summer in the West in a small open place, this drops about 17m in a so called ‘fall’. In this minecave you experience three degrees in plus. In the summer it is always light, thanks to the glittering layer of ice and ice mirrors. You can visit and climb the caves, of course with helping climbing attribute because of the risc of accidents.
The most important sights in Gyergyószentmiklós
- the Szent Miklós statue on the central square with the same name as the holy protector of the city
- a reformed church also on the central square, build in 1895-1899
- a roman catholic church, at the Márton Áron road, build in 1753-1757, the oldest monument of the city
- an Armenian catholic churck (1730-1734), a Greec catholic churck, like a synagoge
- a barock building build by Armenian people on the central square
- the Márton museum with an impressive collection of art, archeologic material
Gyergyószárhegy
It is a village build around the castle of the family Lázár, Bethlen Gábor spend his youth here, his mother was Lázár Fruzsina. Lázár István is a relative of Bethlen Gábor. The castle was damages several times, burnt down and was rebuild in 1900, this was later also destroyed. The castle was restaured and is now partly used as a bastion museum.
The Redlake, Bicaz cliff, Likas cave
The East Carpati are famous because of the many pictures of the landscape in the surrounding of the Redlake with in the backyard the little Suhard rocky walls, they look like a sleeping lion. Orban Balasz writes in his ‘description of Szekely’ about this beautiful view; “ one of the most surprising and fascinating pictures. The big and great lakes in Italy and Switzerland are amazing but these mountains are even more beautiful and impressive.
Súgó caves
The cave is to be found in the first technical description of 1930, devided in three levels, two dry levels and one wed escape. The hallways and the central meetingpoint of the caves are devided in bigger spaces like Buzogányhall, Ödönhall, Létráshall, Gyökérhall(carrot), Szószék (saltchair), Rókák hall (fox), Omlás zaal).

In al the hallways of the cave you find interesting examples of stalagmites and stalacts.
Tusnádbathplace, Szent Anna - lake, Mohos peat moss
In Tusnádfürdő you find natural mineralwater sources, kooldioxyde sources, clean air and a beautiful view. The resort and the spa are located between Csoma and Solomko. Tudsnadfurdo lies 606m above sea level. Near Tusnádfürdő you find two beauties of craters, on the top are Saint Annalake and Mohos peat moss.

The Saint Anna lake is a craterlake, in Middle Europe are still several vulcans with craters. This natural envirement you see rarely somewhere else. You find these 950m above sealevel, the water is cleaner than destilated water. The surrounding of the lake is 1737m, the surface is 95280m2 and the maximal depth is 8.3m, the model of the lake is almost round.

The Mohos peat moss and the Saint Annalake you will find on the top of two crateres, on 800m, in an area of 80ha, depth 10m, surroundings 1050m.

Thanks to the ice ages the natural area is filled with peat moss, slowly growing over the whole area. You find here the interessing plant Drosera.
Szováta - Medve-lake (Bearlake)
The area Szováta Maros and Erdély / Transylvania both offer famous bathplaces. The Bearlake is a place where you meet people at the beach.. It is a saltwaterlake, the temperature changes on different waterlevels, it is 50-70cm deep.

You can hardly swim in the water because of the high contents of salt, you keep floating. The Fekete-tó / Black lake is another popular bathplace. The name is given because the water contents black mud, rich organic material and chlor. In the city are more sources, possible with a healing effect. IN Sovata is een reuma centre, women with fertilityproblems find here also help.
Praid
In Praid in the area Erdély is the famous saltmine next to several sources. The mine is supposed to be build by the Romans and they discovered the saltmines. Discover also the sights in the mountains far above the saltmines.
Korond
The name Korond is known for his folkart, keramics, weaving and woodcarving. Everybody knows Korund with the road and on both sides the sellingpoints for keramics, woodcarving, reed objects. In the same place you will find saltwater sources and aragonite.
Farkaslaka
Farkaslaka is the birthplace of Tamasi Aron, relatives of him still live in this village. The wooden house where the writer was born, is 150 years old and is kept as a memory. In the house his parents made a memory room and outside are words written as a memory. The writer was buried in his birthvillage, on the outskirts of the village, on the hill nearby the church.
Csíksomlyó
The monks entered in Csíksomlyó in 1440. The Gotic churches and the monastery were build between 1442 and 1448. Since the fifteenth century they celebrated activities in Somlyo around the blessed holy Mary. The statue is made in the sixteenth century around 1510-1515, the material was wood and they worked in Renaissance style, artist was unknown. It is one of the famous statues worldwide 2,27m high. The sun shines on the head and the moon is under her feet, on her head she has a crown with twelve stars. The statue was not destroyed in 1661 during the fire of the church. Following the tradition, the leader of the Mongols wanted to steal the valuable statue, but it was too heavy , even eight cows could not pull it. You can see the anger delivered by a sward on the face and neck of the statue. You can still see these on the statue. Pentecost in Csíksomlyó is nowadays famous and popular because of the pilgrimage, a worldwide meeting of Hungarian people. It is about a common past, culture, future and sense of togetherness and cooperation.

Other activities in these area are horse riding, fishing trout, wintersport, skating in a covered ice rink.
